STEVEN GLASSBOROW
As a figurative Sculptor, Stephen Glassborow, has had a
life long passion for working with the human form.
Since completing a Fine Arts Degree in Fine Art
–Sculpture, in 1978, at the Brighton College of the Arts, in
the UK , he has worked continually. His career as a sculptor has
developed to a point where he now sells his work in many countries of
the world. He has completed commissions all around the Pacific Rim ; in
particular, he has public pieces in Bangkok , Kuala Lumpur , Singapore
, Hong Kong , Shanghai , and Seoul . Stephen is now exhibiting
regularly in Boston, Palm Springs and Los Angeles in the United States
and produced public Artworks in Boston and Laguna Beach, CA.
In Australia , he has been in many Exhibitions, and has
public Sculptures in Canberra , Sydney , Melbourne , and Victoria .
As a contemporary sculptor, he has always had a desire
to experiment with the framework within which he can place the figure.
In each sculpture that Glassborow makes, he reflects an urge to
manipulate the figure, and in doing so, he tries to capture the figure
into a blend of the real and the abstract.
In many of his pieces, you can see how he has been
influenced by Art Deco figurative sculpture. But a lot of his bronzes
have a much more contemporary perspective, blending abstract forms into
the figure.
Deconstruction and reconstruction, inspired by
Greco/Roman ruins, also greatly influences Stephen's work and the
marrying of these influences with Art Deco can be seen in sculptures
such as ‘Stairway to Heaven, ‘Coming Out' and
‘Icarus'.
The inspiration for his sculptures begins with a pose or
a phrase. By drawing the idea down on paper he begins to develop the
concept for a sculpture . He then creates a scale drawing, from which
he builds his clay original.
