HELEN LEETE
loves to make sculptures which give delight to people
and which inspire and uplift their spirits.
These days she works mainly in bronze, doing
commissions, both figurative and abstract, for collectors.
She is also well known for her public sculptures around Sydney, which
include:
‘Earthmother' in the Royal Botanic Gardens near the Opera
House
‘Oceanides' in the ocean
‘Arched Back Bather' at Manly
‘Earth Ancestors' in Roseville
‘Landscape Form' at Macquarie University
‘Fountain' in Crescent Garden, Darling Park
and many more.
She studied for a B.A. in Fine Arts at Cape Town University and
attained post-graduate qualifications in Sculpture (at the College of
Fine Art, University of N.S.W.), in bronze sculpture and ceramics (at
the National Art School) and in history of art (at Cambridge
University, England).
She has exhibited widely, both one man and group shows, including four
‘Sculpture by the Sea' shows. She has been short-listed for
the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery Of NSW. Helen has won a considerable
number of awards and first prizes for sculpture in recent years,
including the Art Gallery Society Award at the 2003 Sculpture by the
Sea.
